Combining electric guitar, bass and drums with banjo and fiddle the Johnny Memphis Band plays rootsy rock ‘n’ roll for your listening and dancing pleasure. Based out of Western Massachusetts, they have made three releases featuring the original songs of bandleader Johnny Memphis. The band features Johnny Memphis on lead vocals, bass and mandolin along with great musicians like fiddler Katherine First (from Dicey Riley), drummer Jason Smith (Fancy Trash), guitarist/vocalist Paul Hartshorne (DeMilos), and banjoist/vocalist Laurie Rozenfeld (The Rogues.)
Some of their big hits include “Murphy Bed,” “Wabi Sabi Baby,” “Running Late,” “Never Been to Memphis,” “Old New York Hotel,” “Every Other Day at a Time” and “Some Other Boyfriend.”
Over the years the Johnny Memphis Band has played at venues like the Iron Horse Music Hall, Parlor Room, Green River Festival, 3 County Fair, Florence Summer Concert Series, First Night Northampton, Luthier’s Co-op, Ashfield Lake House, Hawks & Reed, The Rendezvous, Stone Church, Back Porch Festival, Progression Brewery, Glendale Ridge Winery, Bread Euphoria, J.J.s Tavern, Brew Practitioners, Baystate American Legion Post #28 and Flo Ho Ho.
Before starting his own band in 2012, Johnny Memphis played in the Big Bad Bollocks, Check, Please! and the Suburban Headswappers. He is also a writer, concert organizer and radio deejay well-known for 21 years on WRSI, 939 The River. “There’s only one Johnny Memphis” said Masslive in Springfield.
